Concrete Forming

As more home builders and cities look for ways to beautify concrete construction projects, the use of decorative form liners has become a very popular trend. Liners come as plastic sheets with a relief of stone, tile or varied artistic designs, which are attached to the inside of the concrete forming system.

Plywood concrete forms can be used, however non-traditional methods of forming can be used to create negative spaces or inverted forms. Here, the concrete piece is poured upside down to achieve a desired effect or finish for patio deck designs.

PROFESSIONAL TIP: A stacked stone look can be created with concrete, at a fraction of the cost of real stone. Due to the popularity of concrete counter-tops, furniture and decorative precast products, new and innovative methods of forming have evolved.

Designing with Concrete Forms

Many of the newer forming systems serve other purposes as well, such as providing insulation or imparting special decorative effects for landscape designs. Examples are melamine, laminated board or acrylic glass, screw mounted to a large board. Inserts are often attached to the inside of the forms to provide decorative edging or artistic relief.
